(Old) Prototype 3:
(Old) Original Mockup:
This is a mock-up (not a working screenshot!) of what the Audacity
interface could look like, when each track has a gain control, and
the toolbar has mixer settings sliders.
- Loop: when this is selected, the currently selected region keeps
playing back over and over again (without breaks). If nothing is
selected, the whole song repeats.
- Open Mixer: opens a dialog that lets you set up everything about
your sound card, including Left/Right balance, Playthrough (whether
you can hear what you're recording), and all of the specific level
controls your particular sound card provides.
- Master: sets your sound card's master output volume
- Playback level: sets the output volume of Audacity's sound output.
This level is relative to the Master volume. The reason there are
two separate controls is that your operating system may make other
noises like beeps. The Master control does affect these, while the
Playback level only affects Audacity.
- Recording level: Controls the level of whatever recording source
is currently selected.
- Recording Source: Lets you choose between Mic, Line In, Audio CD, and
whatever else your sound card has available.
Notes:
- The window shown here is designed to fit comfortably on an 800x600 screen.
We can't make it any wider than this.
- I think that the toolbar is getting a little crowded. What can we do
to make it less crowded? Would more vertical space help? Does anything
here not belong in the toolbar?
- Do you prefer the "-" and "+" like in the track, or the "0%" and "100%"
like in the toolbar, or are they appropriate where they are?
